Re: Add new sensor (Adafruit STEMMA Soil Sensor - I2C)
Is it a very big deal to add a new sensor? I am working on a vane to show wind direction. I have been experimenting with an as5600 angle sensor. It too uses 0x36, I believe. Is this something that can be added or is there a "work around" for reading the raw i2c data and doing the conversio...

Shardan,
Did you ever get the windvane going with the AS5600?
I am working on a weather vane project also.

Re: Troubleshooting my wifi connection
How does it show a mqtt connection, but never respond to pings? Is it making a connection through the p2p network?
Is the no wifi connection an indicator of low or sketchy power supply?

No, its not a mains powered device. It has a power adapter and usb cable powering it.
I will swap out the adapter and see if there is a change.

Troubleshooting my wifi connection
I have an esp8266 module flashed with build mega-20231130. It has been stable and reliable for all of 2023. It has probably had that 20231130 build since its release date. A few days ago I lost all mqtt messages from the unit and I could not access its web interface & it didnt seem connected to ...

I have a some of the D1 minis and I like using them. I have had some that were unreliable and I had a tough time troubleshooting their problems. Some modules with an identical setup would work fine while others would drop the wifi connection or mqtt connection or I just cant access the web interface...

Hall effect sensor A3144 may be what you want to look into. They sell them on ebay and amazon pretty cheap. I have a few anemometers that I built with those sensors. The hall effect sensors work great and I have used them with esp8266 and esp32 and they seem to work well with both. The only trouble ...

Ath, yep, the correct pullup resistor is wired up. I dunno how cheap the ones are I got. I got some off of eBay and some off of Amazon. I would say they were a few bucks a piece or something like that. They werent super cheap nor expensive that I can remember. Now that I have had a lil experience wi...

To follow up on my DS18b20 sensors showing to be in parasite power mode.... The problem was glitchy/bad sensors. I replaced two faulty sensors and it all works fine. The d1mini & espeasy combo doesnt care about the 8' cable length or whether it is connected via the star topology method or not. I...

I have the latest firmware normal mega-20231225 on an esp8266 D1 mini. On the advanced settings, web log level is missing some options in this build. I was just looking for the debug option and noticed it was not there. I flashed with the previous 3 builds and it was there on those. Any selection th...

Re: parasite power
I have done some reading on the 1-wire and the star topology issues. I am betting that is the root of the issue. When the weather clears up I will do some wiring changes and get back with you.

So rather than chain them together on a long wire, would putting each DS18B20 on their own GPIO be a solution to the star network issue?

I have it all configured on a solderless breadboard and I have had those connections cause me trouble also. Two sensors are cabled out to about 6-8 feet maybe at the most. Re: parasite power
Ok… Thanks. I think my connections are solid, but it can always be that. Very possible that the sensors arent genuine. I will try some tests with a similar setup to see if its the resistor value or supply volts. I would guess its the voltage or resistor value, i am using other sensors from the same ...

any open access point
Is there anyway to have the unit connect to any open access point that it can find? Not just after a flash, but after its setup and operating. I searched around and didnt really see anything on the topic so I wasnt sure if this was doable or not.

settings dropped after upgrade to build 20230930
I noticed on my D1 mini modules when I recently upgraded the firmware to ESP_Easy_mega_20230930_normal_ESP8266_4M1M, it dropped some settings previously set. On the controllers page, Send LWT to broker & Will Retain settings were checked before the upgrade and unchecked after flash. This evening...

After more testing, I was able to see the serial data come in on the logging from the tools tab. So, I do know the connections are right and the setup is apparently ok. sending modules ip address in mqtt message
Is there any way to get my ESP-Easy D1 Mini module to send its assigned ip address in a mqtt message? I was curious if there is a way to setup the module to send its ...
