Hi,
Just wondering ...
Today, Rfxcom team provides different firmwares you pick up according to your devices protocols (type 1 & type 2).
I assume there's an incompatibility between some.
RFLink team doesn't do such thing, there's a unique firmware.
Is it just because the solution is better ?
Or it's a matter of time and, one day, we'll have to choose between several firmwares (i hope not).
Thank you.

Re: Regarding to RFXCom different firmwares
the different frimware is for different hardware...
RFXcom and RFXcomE And the 433 and 315 options...
Perhaps in the future RFlink has new options...../ new hardware.... they have the same problem...
I use the RFXcom years, great Hardware.
I use RFlink from the almost the start.
Also great hardware with better antenna..
Both really good hardware!!!!
Thanks for all this great... without this hardware home-automation sucks...
Love the open structure of RFlink

Yes ... and no.Dylantje wrote:the different frimware is for different hardware...
It exists different firmwares for the same hardware regarding to the protocols you want to receive/transmit.
http://blog.rfxcom.com/Please read chapter 2 of the RFXtrx User Guide.pdf to see which firmware type supports the protocols you need.
The preferred firmware version for the RFXtrx433E is Ext or Ext2.
The preferred firmware version for the RFXtrx433 is Type1 or Type2.
Type1 or Type2 firmware can be flashed in the RFXtrx433 and RFXtrx433E.

Re: Regarding to RFXCom different firmwares
I believe it is a memory limitation of RFXcom.
Adding new devices/protocols is not possible in older RFXcom because memory is full.
So you have to load a later firmware to use the latest devices. I assume you sacrifice some older/extinct devices/protocols by doing so.
RFLink for the moment has enough memory space to add new devices/protocols. Maybe , some day in future the 256kB memory of the MegaAT is not enough for adding new devices and options.

Interesting point of view costo.
It would be a valid reason.
