Adding pins for softwareserial for ser2net

#1 Post by Woodster » 18 Aug 2016, 12:42

Hi there,

what about using two pins for software serial for attaching an esp8266 running ser2net - Then the normal USB connection would always work?

There already are pins broken out for serial on the Arduino D0 and D1 You should be able to connect to them surely? Just be sure to add a signal converter to take the serial lines from 5v to 3.3v. I did read somewhere that the ESP8266 is 5v tolerant (despite the documentation) so you could try without.

Hi there,

yes I know - but then the built in USB/Serial might not work - the esp8266 might need to be removed during upgrade.

It does not need to be a software port, a hardware port could be used as well. .

If it is placed somewhere else, then the firmware just needs to forward the frames to the port also.
