Possible to run RFLink nativly on ESP32 MCU (ESP8266 successor) instead of on an Arduino?

#1 Post by Gamester17 » 24 Oct 2016, 14:39

Would it be possible to use an ESP32 MCU (ESP8266 successor) instead of Arduino for RFLink?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ESP32

That is, could RFLink run nativly on ESP32 MCU (ESP8266 successor) instead of on an Arduino?

Why you might ask? Just though it be a cool idea if could make a cheap RFLink gateway that is on WiFi.

No, we probably will port rflink to additional platforms later.
But right now we are not supporting any other platforms.
If you need Wifi, you can use ser2net on an esp and connect to the ip pins.

OK, so someone on the stuntteam at least plans to port RFLink firmware to other platforms later.

Any idea of specific platforms and if so which will be first? ...would ESP32 or ESP8266 even work?

I'm also guessing that Raspberry Pi is on the wishlist by many for a nativly supported platform?

RFlink is running on a seperate device so that it can dedicate full processing power to the primary task of converting RF signals.
Adding it to the Pi would mean it has to share resources with other tasks and thats not what we want.

Right now priority goes to addding support for more devices and more RF transceiver modules.
In R44 you will find support for the CC2500-2.4Ghz transceiver (Philips Living Colors, Ikea Ansluta), also some experimental Bluetooth LE capturing has been added and receiving of some MySensors devices.
In R45 we will implement the CC1101-868mhz.

Once everything is working in the way we want it to work, we will look at porting to other platforms.
No idea yet which platforms this will be but a selection will be at least based amongst others on:
easy to use, cheap, widely available, proven stability, have wifi...
Note that we are not going to port to many platforms because support is already time consuming with just the mega. We will problably select one.
If you need wifi, use an esp with ser2net.

I am very sorry, but since you could not stay on topic, I had to clean up and lock the thread..
