Config file naming on download

#1 Post by lucaberta » 10 May 2017, 10:59

I understand that the configuration file stored in the SPIFFS FS has to be named config.dat

Yet I find it moderately confusing to only be able to download a file with the same exact same from the web interface.

I wonder, could this be addressed within the code?

Could it be possible to have %devicename%-config.dat as a filename in SPIFFS instead of a plain config.dat file?

Or else, can the filename be enhanced upon download, adding at least the devicename and maybe the firmware version, and also sanitized into config.dat upon upload?

Thanks, Luca

Yeah true that, I also mentioned in my post here that I'd like:
  • When saving a config file please do not make it proprietary, I want to be able to change it or create it using a notepad type of software. When I make new units I want to copy some parts of the settings + changing unit name, unit number etc. etc. If this would be possible it would be nice to be able to add the wifi settings (ssid+password) and skip the login-to-ap-and-type-this-in. Please also include rules in the config file. And preferably have it saved in JSON format. This would make it ideal to send over MQTT!
  • Related to the one above. Have an option to upload a config file when connected to the AP mode 192.168.4.1.

the file name of the save config option will be better in the next release, see my pull request: https://github.com/letscontrolit/ESPEasy/pull/273

the other things would be possible, but we have more urgent issues :)
