Re: Flashing Sonoff Wifi Modules / not working
Well, I have the same issue. And I think I've seen a couple of others, too... A few weeks ago, I ordered and received my first two Sonoff's... Flashing and configuring ESPEASY was a breeze, so I ordered 3 more from a different seller @ aliexpress....These 3 seem to do something whith stock firmware, but after flashing, they're all dead.
I'm beginning to suspect that I 've received a 'cheap chinese knockoff' of an already cheap chinese product:
- Housing of the first batch is matte grey-ish, and feels rough. 2nd batch is just shiny white.
- Cablecovers of the first batch fit nicely. 2nd, not so much.
- Lettering on top is just... Different. Slightly different font, slightly thicker.
- Even the WiFi symbol is a bit bigger. Strange, isn't it?
- Warranty sticker: Looks the same, but if you look closer, it's not. Working ones say 2017 5 1, and the dead ones say 2017 5 15, by the way.
- PCB, same differences, silkscreen texts rougher and bigger, Soldering (especially on the high voltage tracks) just ugly.
Still, if anyone has a real clue on why these things won't work after flashing, i'd like to know too....

Re: Flashing Sonoff Wifi Modules / not working
Did you flash in DOUT mode? The flash memory in your picture require this mode. DiO, QIO, etc. won't work.

That worked for me! Thanks a lot!!!!
Re: Flashing Sonoff Wifi Modules / not working
Ehm... stupid question: how can i set DOUT mode?

Rule nr1: there are no stupid questions, only stupid answers
Here's one: I'm using Arduino to flash the Sonoff, en then it's just somewhere in the tools menu.

Interesting. I use Arduino IDE 1.8.1 Windows (german) with the ESP-core 2.3.0Blacky's Boss wrote: ↑24 Jul 2017, 22:37 Rule nr1: there are no stupid questions, only stupid answers

Within the tools menu i can switch to serial plotter/Monitor, WiFi Firmware updater, Board Manager,
CPU frequency, Flash size, Upload speed, Port, Get board info, Programmer, and burn bootloader.
Sorry, but no or at least no obvious no setting for prog mode.
I didn't find any in the other menu's too.

Re: Flashing Sonoff Wifi Modules / not working
See my settings below, Arduino 1.8.3 and ESP core 2.3.0
Available options depend on the selected board, could that be your cause?
I'm starting to love ESPeasy. On to the next challenge: crappy Chinese RGB ledstrip thingy.

hm....
I'll see if the selected board is the problem or if I can get the 1.8.3. version of IDE
I'll check it when back home

Re: Flashing Sonoff Wifi Modules / not working
Hi,
thanks for that information. All four Sonoff-Modules could be flashed, but after they started and I inserted the Wifi-WPA Key, the modules crashed and made a reboot.
"cause:4" is the reason that I can read. This only works at the +3V3 power supply. If I change it to the 230V AC now accespoint is available...
At the crash the serial port showns a lot of "trash" output. The modules are restarting with the root cause 4...
This behavior is the same from arduino 1.6.12. compiled file and the used xxxR147xx1024.bin file.
It seems to be that there is anything more...
Does anyone have the same problems like me...
Best regards

Re: Flashing Sonoff Wifi Modules / not working
Hi all,
yesterday I made a big step...
I ordererd SPI-EEproms from Winbond W25Q32FVSSIG a few weeks ago (for upgrade from 1 Mbit up tp 4 Mbit).
I removed the Xicor 25F08xxx and replaced them with the Winbond EEproms.
And...surprise....all 8 Sonoffs Wifi Switches are now working correct and stable.
It seems to be that the Xircor-Chips have some properties, that has an impact on the firmware...
But now all is working fine.
Best regards

Re: Flashing Sonoff Wifi Modules / not working
I had exactly the same problem with one Sonoff Basic that I just received from Aliexpress. It worked fine with the manufacturer's firmware, but it stopped working after I flashed ESP Easy.Blacky's Boss wrote: ↑20 Jul 2017, 22:00 Well, I have the same issue. The flash tells me flash ok...
Only no wifi to find.
I try 120 and the last dev 2.0
With differnet boards.

and the 4 channel.
Different flasgools
Differnet usb flashers.
No luck @ all.
And i did flash 10 sonoff before this [ a time a go ]
So help please.

Re: Flashing Sonoff Wifi Modules / not working
Please remember:
The Sonoff 4ch uses a slightly different processor, an ESP8285 instead an8266.
If you want to use the Rxxx version you have to compile your own binary for this cpu.
A precompiled 2.0.0 binary for that cpu is availlable on github.

Re: Flashing Sonoff Wifi Modules / not working
mm i need to better RTFM sorry.
Is there a link or something?
Kan i not flash the 4 channel like the others?
Ans the dual will not flash to.
Do you have other options?
Thanks!!!
Re: Flashing Sonoff Wifi Modules / not working
Hello Dylantje,
nope. as said it is a different cpu that handles memory in another way then the esp8266 - this needs an adapted binary.
Search for the "Sonoff 4ch with espeasy" thread in the forum, on page 4 i attached a precompiled R148 version for the 4ch.
Sorry, i don't have my link collection at hand, i'm sitting in the sun of south spain for another week.
In that thread there are several tips & tricks for flashing the 4ch.

Re: Flashing Sonoff Wifi Modules / not working
Hi guys,
Just registered because I'm having the same problems.
My equipments:
- SonOff Basics
- SonOff TH10 & sensor
I already flashed a sonoff basic with FlashDownloadTool and Firmware 2.00 without any trouble.
Then I tried to flash the TH10 without any success. I checked everything I could hundreds of time (soldering quality, button, spi speed, etc.)
I changed the firmware for the 1.20 : same thing.
It happens that I can flash it with FlashESP8266 from ESPEasy but without any wifi.
After trying so much finally once I've been able to see the ESP_0 wifi and to set the TH10 as I wanted. Actually I set up the LED setting on the wrong GPIO and then........ nothing happened anymore like it was dead. I tryied unplugging of course.
And well I'm stuck again on the flashing that doesn't work ([ESP8266Loader_spi[1]][espDownloader.pyo][line:457][ERROR]: ESP8266 Chip flash download error esp_write_flash.) or success but without WIFI
Does it make sense for you ? I tryied DIO, DOUT, etc. .....
Any idea ? Thanks to you.

Are you sure it is an ESP8266 and not an ESP8285?
Re: Flashing Sonoff Wifi Modules / not working
Hi,
Thank you for your help and sorry for the late delay I didn't have any notification.
Yes I double checked.
I also learned how to use arduino IDE to check and same results.
after a few days I retried everything and sometimes I can flash it but the ESP wifi is never showing up
With these I tryied to flash straight out of the box, maybe they need a first run with ewelink

Re: Flashing Sonoff Wifi Modules / not working
I have not read through the whole post, but I hope this will help.
Last week I bought two Sonoff Basic units and followed the instructions for flashing them and had the same issue where the AP never showed. I tried multiple time and also noted that when flashing the program would often get connection errors before flashing.
I even tried two different USB to serial devices, but they both did the same thing.
After much Googling, I found two things that will hopefully help you.
My board seems to be the newer version from Sonoff (it says v1.1 on the board) and it turns out that Sonoff has made a change to the new boards.
The first thing I learned was that the new board needs to be flashed in DOUT flash mode and the only way I have found to do that is via download of the source, compile and flash via Arduino software.
That did not work at first and was even worse as I just got an immediate connection error, with no retries like with the ESPEasy flash software. So I went Googling again.
The second thing I learned is that Sonoff made a second change to the new board and you have to hold the black button in the whole time from connecting the Sonoff Basic to the USB to serial device and only release the button after the compile and flash has complete. Connection is immediate after compile and the flash does not take long. Doing this resulted in the AP showing up after disconnecting power and power the Sonoff on again (without holding the black button).
I am a complete noob at this, but I hope my advice helps.

Can you look on the flash chip and see if it has a "PUYA" label on it?
