garbage from pzem power meter

#1 Post by BartSr » 03 Jan 2024, 23:26

I have a pzem 016 which outputs a modbus signal
this is converted to ttl and put in esp mini
it worked fine for 9 months
out of the blue the esp had te be reset as it was frozen
than it started to provide exact correct output but
sometimes a number of very many digits just if there was a negative input which of course is not the case
any suggestions?

What kind of ESP board are you using?
ESP8266? ESP32? ESP32-S2/S3/C3? (the others were not yet supported 9 months ago)

Are you using HW serial or SW serial?
Which pins do you use?
Is there something installed near the ESP and/or PZEM which may cause noise resulting in false readings as the PZEM is a coil sensor and thus is very much like an antenna.

Could be the plugin isn't really tolerant when a byte was missed and then it continues to look for the wrong set of bytes.
Have to check the code to test this hypothesis.
