Just a thought, can you set on the Hardware tab to pull-up the ETH power pin at boot? This does enable the power for ETH a bit earlier, so it will allow for slightly more time to let the ETH chip "boot". No difference in the lag with or without the power pin. Just for clarification. The u...

Back in 2001 the 802.11b pcmcia cards of the day : Lucent / Orinoco/ Avaya / Agere (all the same) would connect to ANY available open AP when the card (client) SSID was set to ANY.

Based on your responses all is fine, nothing wrong, no action need to be taken.
I just have to convince the ETH devices of this so they can fix themselves and start behaving the same as when on WiFi :)

But Steven's software design works in this hardware setup.

I have been meaning to remove the ESP32 and flash it as a standard unit, then solder it back but not found the time yet.

I think once the node is initialized apart from the main PCB, then it will boot as expected.
