Was this plugin ever added to the official release? I have not been able to find it as a device in the device list on any of the precompiled firmwares. - I do not mind if it is blocking other functions, key functionality would be to ping external server and toggle relay based on that. Unfortunately power cycling does not resolve the issue. However reading more posts I found the solution now: The Sonoff Basic R2 version has the PUYA Flash chip - flashing with the ESP_Easy_mega-20181008_dev_ESP8266PUYA_1024.bin image resolves the issue. I used ESP_Easy_Flasher w. force Dout option ...

Thanks for the feedback! I can't remember if I did this previously, so I did it using ESP_Easy_Flasher.exe and force Dout. Ie. first flash blank_1MB, afterwards flash the ESP_Easy_mega-20181008_normal_ESP8266_1024.bin. Still no access point - but I do think I have a clue to what could be going wrong...

I have searched and read multiple posts on this issue and tried to follow the various advice-solutions, mainly around force dout and using various flash tools etc. But sofar I have not been able to flash the mega firmware on a basic Sonoff...I am hoping someone has a great idea...
