In case anyone is interested I've made use of ESP Easy rules, timers and a generic dummy device (i.e. variables) to control one of the inexpensive resistive moisture sensors. I'm using a Wemos D1 Mini which is triggered by sending an event (via MQTT) called "activate" from my Raspberry Pi...
