It's a bug in 1.6.8 In the nightly builds it is resolved. This seems to be caused by arduino-builder not generating correct forward declarations for functions marked with extern C. I created only once a Virtual hardware device, it has idx 5, and every time I need to create a virtual sensor I click on the "create virtual sensor" link in the virtual hardware device. So the number of hardware does not change when I add virtual sensor devices. That's also my experience....

But not very convenient, if there is an outage (wifi and/or Domoticz in my case) and the error count goes beyond 30 the ESP turns to Access point if I understand correctly I have to make a tour round the house to switch the esp off and on again to start the normal WiFi connec...

A Pir and batteries are not the best choice.
Unless they are in rooms where there is not much movement.
Otherwise they keep sending and using the WiFi.
Sleep-mode and PIR is not a good idea, unless you make the esp wake up (reset) on movement

I have one unit on a battery and deepsleep.

I have tried it once but I had the same problem.
I use an E12 so no lack on pins and I decided to go back to the default for ESP Easy.

I think that there are many sophisticated apps who can deal with the automation part. I like the hardware part from ESPEasy and the possibility to interact with the automation apps (Domoticz/Openhab/Node-Red/...) so I would say keep it to hardware interaction.. and a good MQTT implementation in ESP ...

It is sort of RFXcom but much cheaper.
