i found this post and looked it up on kickstarter.

it runs an openwrt-linux-variant.
so you may install (micro)-python from the repository on it.

i have no direct answer to your question, but i noticed in your rules, you do a reset twice. 1 x with publish to cmd and 1x with reset as a rules-cmd.. may only 1 reset is enough? maybe the gpio goes 1, because there is something wired to the pin? or a long wire on this pin? maybe you have an unstab...

i tried it with arduino 1.6.5, core 2.20 and pubsubclient 1.9 and pubsub 2.6
always with errors.

but you can send values to mqtt with rules.

this is my setting. maybe try another GPIO? didnt get it before: do you power the PIR with 3.3V or with 5V. i have a wemos board, and i power the PIR with 5V. a far as i remember, i had unreliable workings of my pir on 3.3V. maybe check this to? and maybe exhange the pir with some other, or point it...
