I read about it as well but it's way too expensive... aroudn 25$ for a single module!! Probably a matter of time. Welcome! You will find enough info here to get the Sonoff working with ESPEasy.
Loading the software is simple: first time with a wired connection, once you have ESPEasy installed a new release can be installed via WiFi.

I've upgraded my ESP's to build 137, will report back when I find issues.

remark: it took me no more than about 10 minutes to download, unzip, and load into all of my ESP's!

Interesting. I had the same requirement for my kitchen ceiling (LED) lights. When there is movement (after sunset), the lights switch on to max level. As long as there is no movement, the dimmer goes down one step until the lights are finally off. As you say: a much smoother experience than the hars...

I believe you link a NodeMCU to the Arduino Mega, and set that to be a Serial Server.
Haven't tried it myself.
I heard that the HW team is working on a complete solution for this, now in test phase.

Certainly manjh, if you have a spare sonoff you can use. You will need to modify it a bit as the relay in a standard sonoff is switching live power. Just received the second Sonoff. This one has 5 holes for the serial header, not 4.

Modification and flashing was easy. But when I measured the V on the output, I noticed that even when the relay is switched off, there is still some 14 or 15V remaining.
Is this a problem, or should I ignore?

OK, I attached it exactly you you did, except used GPIO13 (D7). PIR power to 5V and ground, signal to D7. Connected a VU meter over ground and data to see what is happening. I don't understand. The PIR sensor is powered from the USB-in line, so it is 5V (measured it). Ground is common, so no problem. The signal line of the sensor is either 0 or 1,65V, so no conversion needed here as well. My problem is with the level of the GPIO line when the sensor is inactive. It does...
