Whagt is RFLinkSmall? Does it support RFLink on ATMega328?

#1 Post by Zeph » 06 Feb 2018, 19:37

I looks like it might provide (perhaps reduced function) RFLink on a '328 rather than on a Mega.

I don't have or know anything about the nodo hardware, except that (1) it's based on the ATMega328 and (2) it's an inactive project.
RFLinkSmall seems to be aimed at repurpasing old nodo hardware to use a modified RFLink. Right or wrong?

My question: can it be used to implement RFLink on a Arduino Pro Mini? With what tradeoff?

Efforts so far:
The github repo readme just has release info
The references I find on this forum or via Google don't explain a lot either.

RFlink is only available for the Arduino Mega.
if someone recompiled the old source code to fit on a smaller platform then it will for sure not be anything close to rflink and also not have support from us.
RFlink in its current and full version will simply not fit.

RFLinkSmall is provided "AS IS" as legacy firmware for existing Nodo Small boards.
It's based on an old open source edition and it goes without support.

Targeted for those users (like myself) that still have those Nodo Boards in use.

Having on of those boards, you have limited options:

1) Keep using Nodo firmware (project is archived, no future development)
2) Use RFLinkSmall and connect with Domoticz or other RFLink compliant controllers
3) Throw the board in the bin and buy a new Mega based RFLink module

Yes it can run on any Atmega 328 based board. I'm also using it as small RFLink TX WLAN gateways for distant KAKU devices.
These boards only have a 328p chip, a small 433TX module and and ESP-01.
