General questions and observations

#1 Post by Backbone » 09 Oct 2015, 09:41

I am a starter on this project.
Some things might sound strange but this is what I like to know.

I have flashed a ESP-01 with the R20 version.
In the sketch I provided the SSID and PASSWORD and I could connect to the ESP EASY controlpage after the upload with the browser.
I could change the Static IP address and Gateway and Submask and save it.
After a reboot I can connect to the control page again.
Strange but my IP scanner does not find the IP address which I assigned on 192.168.1.80

So I took an other ESP-01 and did the same.
After connection with the controlpage I assigned it to 192.168.1.81
After a reboot again IP address is not found by the IP scanner.

1] Is there a way that I can assign the Static IP address and Gateway and Submask in the sketch on forhand?
I looked for it but could not find it.

2] Is there a way to erase the current sketch on the ESP?

I attached a DHT11 to GPIO2 and changed the settings in the device section and submit.
reboot but no data available. Also serial monitor does not show the sensor is connected.

Thanks, Paco

Only for test, can you apply any changes on you Wifi router/AP? or reboot the Wifi router/AP?

it happened to me on next release, dont remember if has happen on R20.

Maluko,

I performed a power cycle of the router/AP.
Same result.
However I discovered other strange behaviour.
When the DHT11 data pin is not connected to GPIO2 and I reboot the ESP then the serial monitor nicely shows the reboot sequence and power up and conenction of the ESP. As there is not DHT11 connected no data.

When the DHT11 is connected to GPIO2 and I reboot the ESP the serial monitor only gives rubbish.
Also the blue led on the ESP is constantly lighted.
So the ESP reads the GPIO2 and does some thing strange with it.

The ESP is connected on a adpater board with its own 3.3 volt regulator see picture and RX line with voltage devider. See picture.
http://www.ebay.nl/itm/131564605230?_tr ... EBIDX%3AIT
Breadboard also has a 5 and 3.3 volt powwer supply where all the GND are connected.

When the datapin of the DHT11 is connected to the ESP GPIO0 and I powercycle the ESP will not boot nad nothing happens in the serial monitor.
When I remove the datapin the ESP and power cycle the reboot and connection is OK.

So simple but.................but where does it goes wrong :-)

DHT should work on both GPIO-0 and GPIO-2. Just verified on one of my ESP-01 units.

But it looks like you have a wiring issue or a defect DHT unit. It the unit doesn't boot with the DHT11 on GPIO-0, the data pin is low and it should not be in that state. GPIO-0 low during boot will put the ESP module into bootloader mode.

Other issue:
Currently the ESP Easy firmware will not perform a task if the IDX/variable field is left empty. So even if you're not using Domoticz, it should have at least some dummy number. Just enter '1' in that case.

Hello Martinus,

You were correct about the defective DHT11.
Used a fresh one on GPIO-02and also add the D12B80 to the GPIO-0 on the ESP-01.
Also add the fictive IDX number.
It runs for this side of the ESP.
Now looking for the Domoticz to run.

Thanks so far.

I hope my mistake makes it easier for others to troubble shoot.
