Arribada Arboreal Monitoring Platform

#1 Post by musti » 08 Jun 2017, 16:26

Hi,

at http://irnas.eu we are working on developing an open source Arboreal Monitoring Platform https://github.com/IRNAS/arribada-amp for deployment in tropical environments to monitor animals passing though tree tops. As a part of the design of the IoT battery pack we are using ESP8266 (our version of Nodemcu optimized for low power) and instead of developing firmware from scratch have decided to try and use ESPEasy for the application as I have had great results with it in my personal projects.

Now be able to do so, there are a few features that are missing from ESPEasy and I will be looking into adding them and kindly asking the community for support and ideas how to best do so, using the latest Mega version.

Currently there are two key features that we need, likely more will be required:
1) Enable AP mode of operation - such that on every deep sleep wake there is an AP present for X amount of time before going to sleep again: Post https://www.letscontrolit.com/forum/vie ... =18&t=3191
2) Enabling and disabling sleep via serial port and rules - for example do not go to sleep if battery is above Y level and charging at Z rate
3) Modifying rules via serial port

For these issues I will be opening separate threads for discussion there.

I don't get it, if you have an AP then why bother using serial?
If battery levels are to low to wake, then don't wake up: https://blog.squix.org/2016/05/esp8266- ... ensor.html
Modifying rules through serial sounds crazy to me, especially if you have an ap anyway...

You are right and we can modify rules though WiFi in that case, which also makes changing this rather straight forward. One of the things at the moment is how to control deepSleep from Rules and have device operate in day and night mode if we think of it so.
