Linking a SMART meter to home WiFi

HI,
I've just had a SMART metering system installed at home (i.e. Elster AS300P with home display unit).

The LCD home display unit must be receiving signals from the SMART meter in order to display the energy usage.

So my question is... has anyone managed to construct a unit to receive these signals and interface them to MQTT and Node-Red ?

Any help, suggestions, advice would be appreciated.

BTW - I live in the UK, so my equipment is subject to UK standards.

According to the spec:s the unit has an "Optical communications port" which makes me believe that you could intercept the power/water/gas consumption using a pulse counter.

I assume the comms port is situated on the front of the SMART meter and is just a simple infra-red link ??

On a personal note - many years ago I used to run training courses at Ericsson in Stockholm and Gothenburg.
Have had great times in Sweden.

Due to the spec sheet the AS300P is a modular device.

Following the datasheet (see https://www.elstersolutions.com/assets/ ... 072013.pdf )
there is a choice of a lot of different modules for data transfer like GSM, ZigBee, LP-RF for WAN/LAN to name some of them.

As long as there is no info which module is implemented in the counter, it's a bit difficult to say how it could be read or if at all.

Anyways there should a infrared sending diode on 880nm wavelength that sends countable pulses if i understand that right.

Have you managed to get the Pulse Counter device (within ESP Easy) to function?
I've rigged-up an IR detector this afternoon that seems to detect "light signals" from the SMART meter, however the values that ESP8266 report never change.

Debounce time 2mSec is really tight! Under 100 mSec is not ideal I would say.
