RGB LED needed

#1 Post by manjh » 01 Sep 2017, 22:37

For an air quality project I need a simple single LED RGB indicator.
Which type would be the simplest solution?
Use the WS2812? Or use a simple RGB LED and connect to multiple GPIO's? Seems like a low-tech solution... :-(
Is there something that I could connect to I2C?

Hello manjh,

up to now i'm using a GP2Y10 with a RGB-LED as indicator on 3 GPIO's.
If enough GPIO's are availlable it works nice. An OLED and a BMP180 or BME280 can be added
as they are already designed into the PCB.

At the moment i'm revamping the whole project to a more accurate laser based sensor (PMSx003 or SDS0xx).
It will be same size as the sensor above, power supply is integrated on pcb.
As i want a separate LED for PM1.0, PM2.5 and PM10 i decidet to switch to WS2812b as i can drive 3 LEDs on
just one GPIO. I'm on vaccation the next weeks, i'll order the prototype PCB afterwards.

If you are interested in schematics and PCB i can send a PDF file - be aware that the laser based sensors
are untested yet.

Great job Shardan!
I would be interested as well in the schematic, woudl you mind to share it when you are back from your vacation? :D

Hello papperone,

the sensor with the GP2Y10 is tested , two are running here for some months now.

********************** UNTESTED ! **********************************************
I'm designing pcb's for a sensor using the PMS5003 types actually.
It will work with a PMS7003 too using a cable adapter often delivered with the sensor.
With some cable twiddling it should work with a SDS011 but the sensor is a bit too big for the pcb and the case.
As they use the same protocol the newer SDS021 might work, i'm waiting for a sample sensor.
A variation of the PCB will allow mounting the PMS7003 directly on the PCB wihtout cabling.

Two things to be aware of:

These circuits use double sided PCB and SMD parts - etching these PCB's and soldering
these parts needs some experience and very calm hands.

The sensor uses an AC/DC buck converter (HiLink HLK-PM01) so there is mains voltage
on the PCB! Experienced users only!

For the PMS5003 including display/LED-Panel PCB i can give a preliminary schematic and PCB layout.

As many users here have nice projects that might be interesting for others
we're thinking about a "Project" part in the Wiki to make user projects completely
availlable including assembly descriptions and such.
But this will happen in the future as reworking the Wiki for ESPEasy 2.0.0 has priority atm.

PS: I should mention the cases i used:

This case is used for the GP2Y10 and will hopefully be big enough to take the PMS sensors too:

or

https://www.voelkner.de/products/39352/ ... hwarz.html

These cases are sold under different brand names at several sellers here.
I guess it's a china inport case so it might be availlable on the usual platforms too.

Thanks, really interesting and I do agree a "project" section woudl be great to publish users' project but as well to open discussion on PCB design, share ideas and bring them to life!
I'm sure that in such big forum like this we have wither people with good ideas but no skill to make them or skilled hardware people with less idea to make, having a place to join the efforts will bring amazing results!

Count me in of course :)

I have the dust sensor running on an ESP unit and can see a value.
Tried to get this into Domoticz but no luck sofar.
Can someone tell me the sensor type that I should define in Domoticz?

Edit: I defined a custom sensor and used that as target device from the ESP, now the value comes in OK.
Is that the way to do it?
