rotary encoder with rgb leds and button

#1 Post by pppp33 » 16 Apr 2016, 14:13

I found this nice device:
https://www.sparkfun.com/products/10982
It's an AB encoder with RGB light and push button and can be used to build easy and powerful user interfaces....
I thought about 2 uses:
- as an user interface, in conjunction with our beloved oled display
- as an "analog" input from user (ie setting a "comfortable" temperature or dimming the light level)
Do somebody think it could be useful ?
regards

Sure, it's a nice device.
My opinion:
As the ESP8266 with the ESPEasy firmware is primary a WiFi device with (relative) limited sensor controller capabilities it is not very suitable for connecting a rotary switch. Rotary devices need either interrupt enabled pins or pins that are polled very frequently. These requirements do not work very well with the WiFi functionality which has the highest priority in the ESP8266 system.
