flashing with arduino dont show erase. Wiki notice nedded?

hi,
i am deploying three new wemos with r103.
if i open a serial monitor _before_ i flash the firmware, the erase-process is running longer after the flash-complete message.

if i dont have the serial monitor beforehand, i dont see the erase process --
and would have made the requestet cold boot immediately after the complete message
(and i suggest this causing me some errors in the past).

do i have to wait for the end of the erase process?
do the devs have to take action here? does the wiki needs some information about this?
