Yet another noob question

Hi All,

I've recently started testing out ESP Easy on a nodemcu form factor esp8266. At the moment I'm trying to send switch state changes to MQTT as a starting point. The ESP is connecting to my Mosquitto back end fine. Config for the switch as follows...

Name: Living_PIR
Delay: 0
IDX / Var: 1
1st GPIO: GPIO12
Pull UP: Disabled
Inversed: Disabled
Switch Type: Switch
Switch Button Type: Normal Switch
Send Boot state: Enabled
Send Data: Enabled


I can see state changes being published in Mosquitto by selecting and deselecting the Inversed tick box to manually change the state. What I can't seem to do is change the state by connecting the pin D6 to the 3v3 pin. I'm pretty certain I'm doing something very basic wrong but not sure what it is. Any support would be much appreciated.
