Sonoff esp easy connection problems

#1 Post by pandemicz » 30 Mar 2017, 09:52

Hello guys, bought sonoff switch relay, flashed it with esp easy, was really excited, but then started to have some weird connection problems.

I use it with domoticz and simple http requests with script in rules found in this forum, but 4 of 5 http requests usually fail when switching.

When I turn sonoff on - everything is Ok for couple of minutes, but with 3-5 minutes uptime, requests starting to fail, and sonoff web interface is not available too, sometimes I get through, but very rarely, no ping results too.

Stucked with this problem for few days already :| , should I reflash esp easy or hard-reset it somehow or maybe look for issues with my router?

I'd really like to use this hardware, if any add. info nedded, I'll be happy to experiment with it and try something out.

Thank You!

id probably vote for reflashing it? what version did you compile? or did you just grab a bin from somewhere?
if you compiled the latest version then that may be it is it might have bugs causing it to restart.
I have version 148 beta 1 (I believe) and its fine, id say first flash it with esp easy r120 as that is stable. once confirmed working reflash with higher

I flashed it with Stable Firmware image R120 from wiki, I've seen R147_RC8, but I thought it's some kind of dev unstable version.

I'm wondering if I can flash it with OTA, and to your experience, how stable is it?

UPD: Updated to R147_RC8 via OTA, thank You for suggestion, will try it out. Will be glad to hear any other suggestions while testing anyway, thanks!

UPD2: Well, I feel like an idiot now, 2 evenings of wasting my time with different configurations and all I had to do is to try a newer firmware. R147_RC8 works fine till now, no lags and connection issues, http commands work lightning fast. Thank You bobbybeans for your suggestion, will test it more, but looks like the case is closed.

yeah no worries
I have 5 of these thing but only 1 being used and they haven't failed me yet. I have just ran out of things to automate easily ... the ones that are not easy to automate take a more custom solution :(

I have with exactly same HTTP request issues with my Sonoff basic as well!
I will try the R148 to see if it helps :)
Thanks!

Http works great with R148, but I have issues with mqtt+domoticz on R148, so right now I use R147 on my sonoffs and looking forward for esp mega.

Seem to be having similar issues with espEasy mega 2.0.0.... 2 Sonoff s20 running fine, 2 wemos D1 mini without problems, but all 3 Sonoff Sonoffs basic are frequently missing http requests....

Anyone?

When I had such problems, I usually tried another build to get it to work, all other manipulations gave no results.

Also check if your sonoff's wifi is not interrupted with other devices, such as transformators. etc. Had a problem once with putting sonoff to close to 12v transformator and was loosing http connection from time to time, had to move it to a different position to get it to work.

Does anyone have the complete R148 Arduino Sourcecode? That's the last thing I'd like to try before I set these things on fire in the backyard. I mean, I love Hit 'n Miss engines, but not like this...

Still think It's some hardware issue though, but can't figure out what. But why would a Sonoff S20 be perfectly happy with the latest ESPeasy 2.0.0, and this piece of crap is exactly the sme thing in another package, and it won't do it's job....

Well, I'm trying to figure out the pcb layout on this, and maybe I'm stupid, but pin 7 of the ESP chip (CH_PD) seems to be connected to ground, with a 10k resistor. This should be a pullup to VCC.... Can anyone with a working multimeter and a good set of eyes maybe confirm this? :?

Edit: No, Forget what I said. Was looking @ the wrong resistor....
