And you are sure it's 1MB and not 512kB?

Yes, it is the black version.
Can flash the r147 with 1024 kb
Having a similar flashed with R147:
core version is 2_3_0
Flash Size: 1024 kB
Flash Writes (since boot): 0
Sketch Size/Free: 421 kB / 516 kB
after flashing there is not the normal AP ESP01 available but AP_ mac address look alike .
can connect to it. and ping 192.168.4.1. but connection is refused

Re: esp01 and firmware r200dev12
RESET: Too many resets, protecting your flash memory (powercycle to solve this)
This is normal to protect the flash chip from an early dead. The magic command is "resetFlashWriteCounter" to reset this counter to 0.
Error while reading/writing config.dat in 922
The magic command here is "reset". This erases all config files in flash! Do a config from scratch and the error message should be gone.

Re: esp01 and firmware r200dev12
dev-13 was released today, so perhaps also try the new version, after reset of the settings.

Re: esp01 and firmware r200dev12
Same Problem here.
Also R2.0.0dev13 gives same problem.
R147RC works perfect.
Added the picture of the ESP_01 with the memorychip on it.
