Deep Sleep & EMONCMS timing strangeness

#1 Post by whatsupskip » 22 Oct 2018, 05:53

I am running ESP_Easy_mega-20181021_dev_ESP8266_4096 on a Wemos D1 mini V1.0 clone and I am seeing some strange issues with the recording of data on a local EMON CMS 9.8.31. The senor used is the DS18b20 and the internal analog sensor for battery level monitoring.

I have many other Wemos D1 mini V1.0 clone taking temperature and humidity readings via BME280 & SHT30 and a couple more usings the DS18b20. In all these other cases the ESP8266 are on continuously, that is not using Deep Sleep.

The one I am seeing strange issues with is using Deep Sleep set to 600 seconds and a wake time of 12 seconds.

On the EMONCMS I was initially using the MySQL mode to capture the data, however it always seemed to only capture the data at 15 minute intervals. I tried varying the down the Deep Sleep to 300 seconds, but it still only recorded at 15 minute intervals. I then deleted that input and feed. I created a new pair again with MySQL. I then also created another feed using the PHPTimeSeries.

Again the MySQL feed was only capturing at 15 minute intervals. I can use different time intervals with MySQL on the other devices and they work fine, but as I said I am not using Deep Sleep.

Now the PHPTimeSeries does look better as it is mostly recording at 10 minute intervals, except it is one per hour at approximately the same time. It keeps missing the second sample in the hour, that is the one that should be occurring around 17 or 18 minutes past.

Any suggestions as to what is going wrong here?
Is a wake time of only 12 seconds too short?

You should try to extend the wake time and see if you get some change in behavior.

Thanks. Yes, I will try this.

Is there still a requirement for the ESP8266 to have a connection between the Reset and GPIO 16 to enable Deep Sleep?

Yes it should be a connection between those.

Thanks again.

I thought it was missing from the Wiki, but then I just had a look again. Sure enough it is on the first line. Oops.
