Flashing errors.

Trying to flash an ESP-01 with the ESP Easy flasher, it reports errors:

Code: Select all

[27/05/2019 22:18:51] wrote 992, requested 1040
[27/05/2019 22:18:51] error: failed sending 1040 bytes
Repeated many times over.
Have tried a few times, and dropped the baud rate to 9600, but get the same. Is it just a duff module or can anything be done?

Not sure if this will help but first flash a blank 1M bin before flashing the main app.

Thank you. I have read that that is often good advice. Alas not this time, I get the same error.

Is the ESP01 1M and not 512? Read the number on the flash chip.

Good answer, but I think no. It says P25080H, which I believe is 1MB.

Let me just try something else...

Most ESP01 modules have a PUYA chip. For example the core library is patched to work around the strange write behavior of those chips.
I am not sure if the flasher is 100% compatible with those chips.
You could try the Python based ESP flash tool used in the development tools (Arduino/PlatformIO).

Sorry, I'd made a silly mistake on the flashing circuit.

I have another module which I suspect is totally dead: lights up blue and doesn't respond to anything: not even reset. That one is scrap?

It is considerably easier once its set up so rip the band-aid off and get it done
