R120 upgrading to 20111 - Mega?

Hi,
I have a couple of ESP01, 8266's out on my lan, still running R120 that I'd like to upgrade to current "20111 - Mega" version of EspEasy.
I note an 'Update Firmware' warning on similar devices already running Mega: "Load a new firmware WARNING OTA not possible. Max sketch size: 599 kB (614384 bytes)". OTA likely unsupported by R120 anyways, so manual upgrade is called for.
I also note a 'Settings Load' warning on similar devices already running Mega: "Note: (File MUST be renamed to "config.dat" before upload!)" R120 seems to save as eg: 'Config_ESP1_U1_R120_2021_1_1.txt', so a file rename is in order.
Assuming I heed these two warnings , if I 'save' the settings from the tools page in R120, can I do the upgrade to "mega" manually, and then inhale the saved but renamed R120 settings file to re establish the existing config?
Is this process known to work /abandoned and vestigial, any pitfalls to be aware of, have I misunderstood completely?
Thanks,
Brian H.
