target hardware ?

#1 Post by uxhamby » 26 Feb 2021, 19:49

Hi,

What is / are the intended target hardware of the .bin firmwares titled:

'ESP_Easy_mega_20210223_normal_WROOM02_2M.bin'

and

'ESP_Easy_mega_20210223_normal_WROOM02_2M256.bin'

Thanks,

Brian H.

Closest it the Espressif docs I guess: https://www.espressif.com/en/products/devkits

For what I can find it has 2MB of flash (as the bin file suggests ;)) but I'm not sure what the 256 stands for (the source configuration isn't very clear on that), but it may be the SPIFFS (file storage) size.

Oh, and the only complete products I've seen these ESP's in are the Shelly switch products (or at least they have 2 MB of flash). Huge advantage over Sonoff hardware is that OTA updates are supported, so much less hassle to upgrade regularly. But unfortunately the product range of Shelly isn't as broad as the Sonoff assortment (and the many clones).

OK, so, let me have another try:
Closest it the Espressif docs I guess: https://www.espressif.com/en/products/devkits
on that page, the only devices listed with the "WROOM" designation, are ESP32's.

Can I infer from this, that these .bin's, are intended to run on an ESP32 based platform?

Thanks,

Brian H.

No, that's genuine 2MB ESP8266 module from Espressif

And the 2M256 syntax is referring to the flash size and SPIFFS size (as is stated in the included README ;) )
