nonfunctional wifi in ESP_Easy_mega_20210223

#1 Post by woody » 27 Apr 2021, 18:11

Today i try to use ESP_Easy_mega_20210223 .bin files on Wemos d1 mini but with exeption of ESP_Easy_mega_20210223_custom_sdk3_ESP8266_4M1M.bin all other bin files have non functional wifi in sta. First i set in ap mode what is needed but after reset esp does not connect to wifi in sta mode (sometime it can connect but after reset all is bad). Only functional without any problem is ESP_Easy_mega_20210223_custom_sdk3_ESP8266_4M1M.bin but it has only a few tasks (20) and dht22 which i wish to use is missing. In log is often message: WiFiStatus WL_DISCONNECTED ESPeasy internal wifi status: Conn. So i dont know what this say. All .bin flashed after ESP_Easy_mega_20210223_custom_sdk3_ESP8266_4M1M has nonfunctional ap mode. So this version is for me unusable. Can anybody advise me what to do.

I think I can tell you with 99% certainty you do have a unit which has a really crappy power supply.
So please try an external 3v3 voltage regulator to power it and add a 22uF capacitor as close as possible between 3v3 pin and GND.

There have been numerous reports lately of really crappy "Wemos D1" modules being sold, with "Wemos" in quotation marks as Wemos (later LoLin) does not make those anymore for over 2 years, so the ones being sold are clones of clones of...

Some need to be built and flashed with "DOUT" flash mode to make them work, but others just have really really bad voltage regulators hardly capable of delivering 150 mA, while the ESP needs peaks of 500 mA when starting WiFi.

Great :)

But sad to see lots of units sold as Wemos D1 mini now have really crappy voltage regulators.
