Not without some excitement I just realized the price for dual band GSM / GPRS modules
on aliexpress dropped to less than US$ 2.00 including shipping!
Just US$ 1.50 / free shipping and fixed antenna: http://s.click.aliexpress.com/e/i6mamuj
And one for US$ 2.22 / free shipping with an ipx / u.fl connector and external antenna
http://s.click.aliexpress.com/e/byJAa6e
Here's the full command reference:

Prepaid card, GSM module and a sonoff wifi switch/relais and you have a complete solution for less than US$ 8.00 !!
These run on 3.3V, provide a serial port and are configured by common AT commands.
Sounds ideal for ESP easy. How can I make use of them with an ESP module? I'd like to
trigger a switch with a SMS.
Can this be accomplished with just a set of rules?

Hmmm, I thought it is a new product... But now that you mention it, I had a closer look at the pcb and there is indeed no gsm module visible.
