Did I fry my Sonoff

#1 Post by aussieatlarge » 25 Aug 2017, 06:06

I read that many people are experiencing issues with the latest batch of SONOFF switches. I am experiencing same issues - flash eventually takes but no activity on reboot.- no led, no wifi
However, I know that at one stage I tried flashing with 5v instead of 3v. The upload seems to work but thereafter issues described above. If it were fried, would anything work? How does one test?

Meaning: possible, but unlikely...
Use Arduino IDE and monitor the serial after reboot...

Which sonoff's are you using? Basic? 4CH?
A bit difficult to say which version you need.

This "Flash Mode" field is not there with "generic ESP8285" sadly.
So it won't work for a Sonoff 4CH if we run into same problem.

A way out might be using the nodeMCU flasher
https://github.com/nodemcu/nodemcu-flasher

If i find time i'll make some screenshots and text and put it into the wiki.

It's a ESP8266 so it should be possible to use the Arduino IDE to upload in DOUT mode.

Install the Arduino IDE as described at https://letscontrolit.com/wiki/index.ph ... are_Upload
The instructions are still on R120 version, but setting up for ESPMega 2.0.0 is the same, just download the sources for ESPMega
from github instead the older versions.

Chose "Generic ESP8266" as board type, 1M Memory with 128K SPIFFS". set "Flash Mode" to "DOUT"

Tried all of the above. I can upload but I do not get anything on the serial interface or a SSID.
I have tried 120 and 2.0

I have exactly the same problem
Sonos single relay, brand new (arrived today)

I loaded the firmware. restarted and nothing happens
I used R120 and only ever supplied 3.3v
