Weird problem with Relay on ESP !!

#1 Post by vincen » 23 Nov 2017, 14:03

Hi

I'm using Home-Assistant to manage my heating system that is basically controlled for on/off by just a simple relay ! I use an ESP running ESPEasy 2.0.0 dev 12.
This ESP has one relay first connected on GPIO5 and also a DHT sensor plugged on it for temp/hum. of the room where it is.

Automation was working fine till few days where it started to go wrong unless I changed nothing in system !! First time it was after a restart of my whole automation system where I got relay of ESP changes of state every 5s. I restarted the MQTT broker and it went fine back. Now problem is back again but I noticed that in fact relay of my ESP keeps being on (unless Home Assistant tells me it's off !). I can see it on also in Web interface of the ESP. I thought the GPIO used might be dead or have a problem. I then passed on GPIO10 but problem is still there ! Any ideas what's wrong or how I can investigate the problem to find out what's going wrong ??

Thanks for help

Vincèn

oki made a little more investigation and it looks like my relay board has an issue ! I have the green led on it indicating when relay is on that keeps in fact on all the time (even when relay off) but it's less strong light when relay off !! Relay board that has a problem ? or the ESP ? same symptoms on different GPIOs of that same board....

Nope as it has worked perfectly fine during two weeks before going bad !! And this morning it's working again perfectly normally so I suspect a problem of power on the ESP module or something like that ! Will change the USB power and see if it comes back !

Can you post a picture of your relay board.
Did you pull up or down on GPIO.

Sure here is Relay board I use:

and config I did in ESPEasy:

I changed of GPIO on ESP but still the same and suddenly problem disappeared without any real explanations and since it's working fine again....

GPIO10 definitely is not a good choice...
There are few threads explain why if you search for...
My TINDIE Store where you can find all ESP8266 boards I manufacture --> https://www.tindie.com/stores/GiovanniCas/
My Wiki Project page with self-made PCB/devices --> https://www.letscontrolit.com/wiki/inde ... :Papperone

Please take a look at the following thread: Don't use GPIO 9 or 10

Are you using Logic Level Converter(shifter) between relay board and ESP8266?
