Firmware upload helper module?

I would like to know, what you are using to upload new firmware into your ESPs. Have you built your custom version of breakout board and you unplug the ESPs from their modules to upgrade firmware or you attach the FTDI interface to a module it is centerpiece of instead?

I have seen this nice board for ESP-01 on Tindie https://www.tindie.com/products/rajbex/ ... d-adapter/, but the shipping price to Poland is quite prohibtive. And I am still thinking about the best approach for ESP-12E.

This adapterboard costs not much more than nothing.

You just have to solder it yourself.

The best approach for an ESP12E is without any doubt a NodeMCU board. You can get them for a few dollar from the far east.

It's not exactly what I meant. I am looking for a permanent fixup for pulling an ESP from a working module and plug it in for programming. I was thinking about permanent setup - like using the ide you've mentioned and wiring it permanently in cear way, just for programming.

As for NodeMCU - can you easily exchange ESP-12E on it? I was pretty sure, this is peramently soldered and only way to change the ESP is to desolder it, which kills the whole idea.

Probably you can fix all your ESP's with 2mm pinheaders and use 2mm sockets in your projects (works only for esp 03/04/07/08 which have a 2mm grid)
Than you can plug them out/in easy many times.

Not sure, if I correctly understand, what it is - ESP-12E with micro USB connector with some added items or a development board to which you plug your own ESP-12E, but still interesting to see what you get

I don't know exactly, to me it looks like a board with an esp8266 (ESP12F) and a board with a USB interface.
The esp board looks like a sort of demo board with led and ldr.
