Replace SPI-Flash... Different codes

#1 Post by Micha_he » 29 Jan 2021, 08:15

I would like to replace some of my (ESP01) flash chips with larger flash chips.

Can I use a Winbond W25Q64FVSSIG for this? Or what is the difference to W25Q64BVSSIG, except that it's slower?
Does anyone have information about this letter in the product-code?

Hmm the "64F" is just mentioned as "size" in the datasheet: https://www.winbond.com/resource-files/ ... 142016.pdf
The same for the "64B" in this datasheet: https://cdn.hackaday.io/files/775833191 ... 5Q64BV.pdf

Purely based on the date of the documentation, I think it is a generation.

I just ordered a set on Aliexpress of the W25Q32... type, 32 Mbit (4 MByte) is the largest flash size (actively) supported atm for ESPEasy. Price difference is neglect-able, IMHO.

(I'm trying to fix a Sonoff S20 that's kind of DOA, after initial flashing it never booted anymore though flashing seems to work, serial log only gives some gibberish after power-up, then nothing. A nice project to see if I can upgrade it to 4 MB 8-))

If the 8M chip is pin compatible, you can also select the larger one.
4M image can also be flashed on larger units.
Later when we support LittleFS, the larger flash sizes will be more useful.

The W25Q64FVSIG flashes are arrived today. They are working currently on two of my ESP01 (replaced P25Q80H).
Now they have 8MB and I can update them with OTA...
