Is it an option to make the code configurable so in the sketch we can assign IP address, gateway and subnetmask at first upload?
Why?
Saves time for searching the DHCP address or first AP search trouble.
You need a IP scanner anyway to find the DHCP address if you do not use the first 30 seconds AP route.
So start IP scanner and check free addresses range.
Assign the free value in the sketch.
Upload
set browser to ip address >> done

Besides the fact that it could be implemented for the reasons you're suggesting, i wonder why you should set static ip addresses in your device.Backbone wrote:Is it an option to make the code configurable so in the sketch we can assign IP address, gateway and subnetmask at first upload?

I kinda like managing ip-adresses from 1 central place: my router. My DHCP server is setup to lease in the range 100-200
The range 1-40 is reserved for my esp modules: first time i let them connect with just a dhcp release, this way i see their mac address in the router overview, next thing is assigning a reservation and adding a description.
this way you can see in one overview what esp devices have witch ip address. Just a suggestion sharing my best practice
