nodeMCU wipe out and start clean

#1 Post by onlize » 20 Mar 2018, 05:36

I messed up something and want to reinstall everything. I downloaded new firmware, but when I try to flash it, I do not see the new WiFi that I used to connect to this device and connect it to my WiFi.

I found that I have to click and hold flash button while the new firmware is loading, but it did not work for me.

Sometimes I can catch a couple of pings for this device, it means that it still remembers connection and password to my WiFi. I want to wipe it all out and start clean.

I cannot connect to my device at all and cannot reset firmware. Can someone help me with this?

You could connect it via the serial port you use to flash it and then give commands to it via a serial console.
See: https://www.letscontrolit.com/wiki/inde ... _Reference
You can enter "Reset" to return to factory default.

If that doesn't work you can also use a number of flash tools to fully erase the flash chip.

Thank you for your reply.

Unfortunately, it does not want to listen to any command when I connect to it using COM port.

The tool that you suggested does not have Windows files, but I used esptool.exe that came with the flasher for ESPEasy and it did not help me.

For Python files, you need a Python interpreter.

Thank you very much. This worked for me. Strange, do you know why they have the esptool.exe file with all other Windows files?

Nope, I only used this Python version once, but that was to see whether or not they could identify some ESP chip version and once did test an erase flash.
I've not used it for something else.
