Relay state survival upon ESPeasy cold reboot

#1 Post by ouinouin » 11 Dec 2018, 22:45

Hi,
I just entered the world of espeasy, this tool is powerful.
despite this i think some basic plugins needs to be clarified , since in many examples, the input plugin is used as output support for relays for example, there should be a dedicated plugin for simple digital outputs.
in this way we could easily manage some basic actions like toggling the output while receving a single command.
another issue wich is a showstopper for my use case : it seems no retention of the last state of the relay is done at this point.
this functionality could help the ESP to restore the last relay state : to switch it back on if it was off before the cold restard.
to what I could read in the forum, the flash durability might be a problem so this feature should be optional (box to tick), and finally only the "relay on" state has to be written to flash so you ll have to write the status to flash only one time out of two.
in the mean time, is there a command to store a variable to flash or another trick i could associate to another command stating that the system just started and use it in the rules each time the relay event occurs.

thanks for helpful comments.

We're doing a great redo on the GPIO handling and the Switch input will be split into dedicated plugins for switches, relays and servos. Stay tuned :)

The documentation is still behind though.

@ouinouin
Choose a Latching relay, it's state will survive a power-down/reboot.

Reading the wiki gives a lot of inspiration.
