Wemos D1 Mini Flash with latest ESP Easy

#1 Post by PetersPlace » 14 Feb 2021, 09:26

Hello all members,

My collgea gave me 5 pieces of ESP8266 Wemos D1 mini.
I want this to use my energy DSMR 4.2 meter. I know the settings. And send them by MQTT to HA

What I do not quite succeed is the installation of ESP easy the latest version. I finally managed to flash an older version
Below is the info from the esp easy webpage

Code: Select all

Unit Number: 1
Git Build: mega-20190731
Local Time: No system time source
Uptime: 0 days 0 hours 1 minutes
Load: 8.40% (LC=6297)
Free Mem: 19032 (17720 - sendContentBlocking)
Free Stack: 3600 (2080 - loadFromFS)
IP Address: 192.168.2.105
Flashing with goes well with the ESP.Easy.Flasher and pe ESP_Easy_mega_20210114_normal_ESP32_4M316k.bin I have tried some other firmware from this distribution. But all of them give some kind of bootloop on the serial port monitor and nonsense text.

so so what would be the better firmware ? and where to find it.

The Wemos D1 mini we have here, except there is no wemos logo on it, I think these are from Alie.

Erm, I am using the latest version of ESPEasy on two devices without any problem. The difference is that I updated them from an earlier version using OTA flash.

Probably you could try this way?

Another idea: make a clean device flashing at first the blank_4M.bin included in the package and then try again to flash the current version.

Code: Select all

pi@raspberrypi:~ $ man woman
No manual entry for woman
pi@raspberrypi:~ $

You really shouldn't use an ESP32 bin file on an ESP8266 device, that'll never work. Please download the .zip with ESP8266 in the name, and pick a 4M1M build to flash.

Yep, this is an ESP8266, so use a .bin file (not .bin.gz) with ESP8266 in the file name and "4M1M" as this Wemos D1 mini board does have a 4M flash size.
