Gas and water meter pulse counter

#1 Post by dlefol » 04 Jan 2016, 21:51

Hello,

I have recently connected an ESP running ESPEasy to a couple of TCR5000 pulse counter. The problem I have is that the counting is not very reliable. Sometimes I get 2 pulses per turn sometimes 1 pulse only.

I have several questions :
1. What is the expected behaviour ? 1 pulse at start of detection (low -> high) and 1 pulse at stop of detection (high -> low) ?

2. If I put a long debounce time, can it prevent the second pulse from being counted or is debounce only removing a complete low -> high -> low cycle

3. In general I am interested to know what people have done to improve the reliability of detection as at the moment the accuracy I get is too poor to be used (around 30% of error rate).

Thanks

i hat this problem too, but change the debounce time to 100 and now it works well.

Thanks for your replies.

On my gas meter I change the debounce to 2000 and now I get around 3% error rate (not great but acceptable compared to the 30% error I had at 1000). On my water meter I have completely useless readings still unfortunatelly despite trying different debounce value.
I am thinking of moving to reed switches as sensors to try to have a more reliable result. Is any reed switch ok or do I need to select carefully (I've seen different wattage, voltage and other parameters but don't know if it will influce anything since here I just need a contact)

Thanks

Which reed contact did you use ? on my side the one who can be found on a 433 mhz alixepress door sensor who do this job before

On my side i put a 100uf capacitor between each pin very close from the reed switch.

I m not using a reed sensor at the moment I am using an infrared proximity sensor which I am planning to change for a reed sensor hoping to have a better accuracy. I haven't had the time to look at this for the moment but thanks for the info concerning your sensor.

this one will do the job : http://www.compteur-energie.com/gaz-eme ... in-z62.htm

for my water counter i have to get this one who is the best : http://www.diehl.com/fr/diehl-metering/ ... a13fa9f586

A reed sensor is a reed sensor. Just simple 3v3 + pull down resistor. Cheap ass reed sensor + hot glue
