Zemismart-Switch-Modification

#1 Post by meinanolis » 01 Oct 2019, 21:18

Hey folks,
I found a very nice smart Switch, with physical buttons and easy to reach contacts on ESP. Since I am very happy with this switch I would like to recommend it to others.

The Switch I used is the Zemismart Switch (ZM-L02E) AliExpress

Below there is an image of the final result. The wire goes to a motion sensor, a temperature/pressure/humidity sensor and a light sensor.

Hmm nice one.
Do you happen to have a picture of the other side of the PCB?
It looks like you can remove the ESP module , but I wonder how it does look like on the other side.
The 1 MB flash is what's bugging me.

To be honest, I didn't get the circuit board out. I levered it with a screwdriver as hard as I dared and until the circuit board made crack noises. You can look in through slots on the side, but I didn't see any reason why one can' t get it out of the plastic case. I didn't want to break it either and since I didn't have to take it out I left it there.

Oooh nice one. Perhaps possible to change the ESP to a 12E or something?

What I really like is the haptic feedback. The switches have a pleasant pressure point and make a quiet click when you have pressed them. I will definitely order more of them and then try again to take a look at the back of the board.

Can you see how the push buttons work?
Are they the 'standard' black buttons, you see on most boards?
Or are they integrated in the PCB?

In other words, is there some component soldered on as button, or not?

The reason I'm asking is that I have still some old KaKu 433 MHz switches in the living room and the one that's being used the most has now issues with the lower button.
You really have to press it and it doesn't feel like a proper feedback anymore, which it had before.
Those have rather cheap switches which press something on copper traces on the PCB.

There are the standard push buttons soldered on. Like this: https://www.sparkfun.com/products/97. The nice haptic feedback, however, comes from the case that is plugged in front of it. There is a spring built in, which pushes the plastic back. I'm not sure right now, but I think the quiet click comes from the button itself.

Yep, those buttons do give some click.
Still they come in different quality, which is to be expected as you can buy them per 100 for less than an euro.
But even the worst ones are better than the "PCB traces" ones.
