ESP_Easy_mega_20200829_normal_ESP8266_1M - Append Unit Number to hostname does not work

#1 Post by pw444 » 01 Sep 2020, 21:51

Hya,

restarted all over, after a very bad illness.

Installed the ESP_Easy_mega_20200829_normal_ESP8266_1M on a esp8266-01 and discovered that Append Unit Number to hostname does not work when selected.

Any hint?

Best regards,

Where doesn't it work as expected?

A few months ago, all code related to generating the hostname (and all related to using unit number and name) is now using the same setting.
I just got the impression this works a bit "too well" as in it may give counter intuitive results where you sometimes don't expect the unit number to be appended, where it is.

So can you give some examples of where it isn't working?

device name: rl1C

arp -a shows rlc1C.fqdn instead of rl1C_0.fqdn

rl1C stands from relay 1 contact (mono relay), so i can via mqtt address it per fqdn

But now a doubt raised. Is this unit number once appended retained or does it changes on boot order?

It should be generated each time it is requested.
I will have a look at the hostname it sends to the DHCP.
And maybe also have a list of where it is used, so maybe we can have selections every place where it is used to generate it with or without the unit number.
For example MQTT is quite selective in the host format for some brokers.
