Fonts for ILI9341

#1 Post by Wiki » 29 May 2023, 10:25

Hi,

I am using an ILI9341 with a Wemos D1 to show various MQTT topics from my offgrid energy production/consumption. Works so far pretty good, Thanks to whoever added these devices and MQTT import in the past.

I interpreted the documentation, that at least three additional fonts should be available. But the command "tft,font,....." is answered by "Unknown Command". Would be nice if there would be a higher font resolution on the 240x320 screen.

Did I misunderstand the docs? I am using ESP_Easy_mega_20230508_display_ESP8266_4M1M on the Wemos.

For using additional fonts with the AdaGFX_helper module of ESPEasy, you'll have to create a Custom build and enable those fonts, as the Display builds for ESP8266 are filled to the brim with all types of display plugins, leaving no space for 'fancy features' like fonts.

Hi,

Thanks for the information, this fact I've had already in mind.

Up to now I was not able to create a working environment for building customized binaries by myself. Looks like I will give it another try in the next days. There are some other wishes which are not covered by the standard releases, even if there is a huge amount of different builds.

Thank you anyway.

I assume you have found the "<trigger>,txs,<size>" command to set the font size? It uses a simple scaling, on an integer level only, but it allows for (much) larger font-sizes than the default 8pt fonts.

Yes, I am using different sizes (3 and 6) on the screen and a TFT 240x320 to be able reading it from a little bit larger distance. Thats exactly why I would like a font with higher resolution, the roundings of the standard font at this size are looking like stairways.

I am a little bit spoiled from the quality of my Nextion displays. But in this case a Nextion would be an overkill for just getting a smoother font.
