Generic Pulse Counter

Hi

I am using a esp 8266 board
For a Special Task i need a Bunch of generic Pulse Counters. In total count Mode Pulse Change Mode
You need for every counter an extra gpio Pin.
I want to increase the number of gpoi Pins with an PCF8574 Expander
Ist this per Software possible

The pulse counter plugin only supports internal GPIOs.
External GPIOs are not fast enough.

If you need more GPIO pins for this, why not use an ESP32-S3 ?
