Can I build a high-voltage motor driver using the IR2118?

#1 Post by AVAQ » 09 Jan 2025, 09:32

The IR2118 is a dual-channel driver that controls high-side and low-side MOSFETs in an H-bridge configuration, which is commonly used in motor control circuits.
I would like to use the IR2118 in my project because it allows efficient switching of MOSFETs, ensuring proper high-side drive when using low-voltage logic signals (such as 12V or 24V DC motors).
I wonder if this idea is feasible?

I did find some datasheets for the IR2118, but those mention it to be a single channel.

Also the max. current it can deliver isn't that impressive.
Not sure about what use case there is for this chip as the only special feature is the max. voltage.
But the max. current is only a few-100 mA.

What motor do you want to drive?
