What can users do to make ESPEasy more attractive.

#1 Post by ManS-H » 16 Apr 2019, 20:29

Its a pity that the latest builds not working with OTA with devices with 1MB memory, only a two step.
There are a lot of devices that makes the work at home easy, they dont need fancy firmware.
In my case i have Sonoff, Neo Coolcam and BlitzWolf BW-SHP6 devices.

The latest two i have flashed with "Tuya-Convert"
https://www.heise.de/ct/artikel/Tuya-Co ... 84830.html
http://www.thesmarthomehookup.com/tuya- ... uary-2019/

Great, no disassembly of the device, no soldering.
And sorry, its now running with Tasmato, but i prefer the ESPEasy firmware.
So my question, bring a 1MB version for this kind of devices with OTA capabilities.

We are not doing it because lack of funding. We are pursuing money be helping companies use ESP Easy. They are mostly using 4MB and bigger... We simply need to get cash to put food on the table. I'm $4000 minus from trying to get this rolling as a company. Call me stupid, I will not argue with you, but I really thought the 50k+ user base in 80+ countries would step up to the challenge.

Okay, i understand your goal and i wish you and TD a lot of success with the company.
I hope for you that everyone of the user base spent the first year €10 so you have a good base to make ESPEasy successful.

@grovkillen: I think you need to do more advertising / publishing news on the development status, if you wish to get more people to contribute. It feel pretty quiet considering you're in need of funding. I'm sure there's many people out there (including myself) who would love to see ESPeasy suceed, so the potential is most likely out there somewhere :D

I'd say it's "catch 22", we need the help from the community to advertise as well... we're knee deep into staying afloat and the feature requests are piling up. What more can be asked of a person... The forum is not the perfect place to advertise and we have a new site in mind but that takes time as well.

@grovkillen
I think, you need some stable relase.
And I do not mean old and slow Rxxx relases.
Each mega brings something new, but looses something different, what works fine before.
I found some latest v2.0 version, which is compromise for me. Then are still changes And what works fine, for example rules, which is main advatage ESPEASY, do not work correctly etc.

We will do our best. But that's probably not going to happen as long as we are doing this on our spare time.

Hello,

I do agree with some previous comments.

First, I believe you should advertise directly on github release download page. Personaly, I only go there most a the time.

Second, it would be good to clarify / update the development status. On ESPEasy wiki page, it mentions a new stable version on 2018 Q3, but as far as I know it was never released. That gives the feeling that the project is not alive and I do not see why someone would give money for a potentially dead project. The fact that ESPEasy is somehow linked to RFLink through letscontrolit.com makes it even worse as RFLink really is a ghost project at the time (last post on the blog is 23th of August 2018, last release is october 2017,etc.).

Also, I would advise to remove ESPEasy Mega page, which also makes things confusing (it is different from ESPEasy 2.0 ? ...)

That said, do not get me wrong, I really appreciate all the work that was put in ESPEasy and want to thanks all the developers. I plan also to do some other donations to support, hoping this will help to bring a stable version.

Bear in mind that this "someone" is me and TD-er, we're only two people with everyday life. My money is out and my energy is almost out. All these suggestions are good but feel free to pitch in in ANY way or form. Good intentions isn't good enough.

@ManS-H you may change the title if you want.

I will now try to keep away from this project until I feel I will be a positive influence, which I currently is not. Please take these negative comments from me as a cry for help and not by any mean the official ESP Easy statement. TD-er is doing his part just perfectly but I don't have much love in my hear right now.

A message for all users of ESPEasy, what can users do to make ESPEasy more attractive. Send them money.

Can we as users Grovkillen and TD-er grant a salary for one year?
With more as 50k users this must this possible.

Example:
If every user support Grovkillen and TD-er for 1 euro each in a month that's yearly 24 euro.
Go out of a salary 50K each then we need 4166 users to support them.
I hope this is possible otherwise we have the change they pull the plug and then its over and out for ESPEasy

We can do this with this: https://ko-fi.com/GrovkillenTDer

I spent already my part.

Greets, ManS-H
