any open access point

#1 Post by Rob73 » 18 Dec 2023, 16:16

Is there anyway to have the unit connect to any open access point that it can find? Not just after a flash, but after its setup and operating. I searched around and didnt really see anything on the topic so I wasnt sure if this was doable or not.

ESP Easy firmware can be configured to connect to an available open access point after initial setup.

... but not to "any" unconfigured open WiFi access point.
IMHO that would be quite tricky behavior as it would open up a very easy way to perform a man-in-the-middle attack.

Back in 2001 the 802.11b pcmcia cards of the day : Lucent / Orinoco/ Avaya / Agere (all the same) would connect to ANY available open AP when the card (client) SSID was set to ANY.
The wildcard of the SSIDs :)
