Re: Sonoff Basic - AP not apearing on first boot with pre-built BIN
Thank you alphons your post works fine and my units are now working again.
Re: Sonoff Basic - AP not apearing on first boot with pre-built BIN
I had the same issue. I solved it but I am not sure if what I have done to solve it is going to cause me any additional issues if the memory size has not changed.
I solved the issue by flashing the 8285 version of the firmware instead of the 1024 size. I now have 4 working devices using this. I was just assuming that the company has upgraded the memory on the new units.
If this is something that is going to cause me issues I would sure like to know it ASAP.

Nope it's the correct firmware in fact 8285 is fos chip reference not memory size so you are all ok thereawclem wrote: ↑20 Aug 2017, 17:34 I had the same issue. Re: Sonoff Basic - AP not apearing on first boot with pre-built BIN
I think we already have a precompiled ESP8285 version, that should work right?

I have the same problem but i can solve it with your instructions!! Best regards and thanks!
Re: Sonoff Basic - AP not apearing on first boot with pre-built BIN
I have a few brand new Sonoff Basic devices - the ones with the new chip that required DOUT rather than DIO, apparently, though I am having trouble flashing ESPEasy binary images on these devices with it set to DOUT or DIO.
I have successfully flashed these devices with a blink sketch using the Arduino IDE, so I know my USB-> serial is working ok. I'm pretty sure the Arduino IDE is using DIO though, as '-bm' is not specified on the command line (see example further down this post).
Here is one of my attempts at flashing an ESPEasy binary image, with console out (I'm on a Mac):
$ esptool -vv -bz 1M -bm dout -cd ck -cb 115200 -cp /dev/cu.wchusbserial1410 -ca 0x00000 -cf ESPEasy_v2.0.0-dev12_normal_1024.bin

Immediately after uploading this the Sonoff blinks away happily.
As a side note, I HAVE successfully flashed an AdaFruit Huzzah with the R120 binary image specifying -bm DIO, so the image is also fine.... It's just these Sonoffs that I'm struggling with.
Any advice would be gratefully received.

Re: Sonoff Basic - AP not apearing on first boot with pre-built BIN
Hello all
I have a Sonoff S20 which I've read is almost identical to the Sonoff basic. I'm able to upload espeasy but as with others.. there's no AP. There's a twist to this story though... As I did manage to get it up before..
This is what happend:
Tested the original unit with EWelink - all was ok
Soldered header and used Adruino IDE to flash espEasy R120 - all went well
ESP_0 AP came up and I started to configure the unit....whilst going through the config I thought I could load up a config from another Sonoff Basic I have, then update the parameters like IP address, name etc.. but the config wasn't showing up So i rebooted the unit..... It went downhill from there..i Iost connectivity . I turned off my WiFi ap in the hope of seeing esp_0 on the unit but that didn't happen either. Ive tried to flash espEasy on again.. which seems to go on successfully... But no Esp_0 ap. I get no output over serial nor can I send any commands (using putty)
Flashing Tasimota works fine..
I have a feeling that config data is persistent and that is what's causing the problem. I may need to do some work of memory wipe, and start again.
I anyone out there able to help?

Re: Sonoff Basic - AP not apearing on first boot with pre-built BIN
- Disconnect the S20
- shorten Tx--Rx with a jumper cable
- power on and wait some seconds
- power off, remove jumper.
This erases the chip memory.

Thanks Shardan
I'll give this a go when I get home. Incidentally...Do you have any idea what kind of response I should get from the on board LEDs when doing this?

Re: Sonoff Basic - AP not apearing on first boot with pre-built BIN
Honestly i don't know.
My S20's are still on the way from china
Hopefully the customs won't reject them.

Re: Sonoff Basic - AP not apearing on first boot with pre-built BIN
Just an update.
Shorting tx/Rx didn't work for me.. I had to use the espTool from
Espressif. There is an option to clear the chip which worked. I then used Arduino IDE to load EspEasy on again.
Phew!
Oh and my unit also came from China... Took about 3weeks to deliver to my home in the UK.

Re: Sonoff Basic - AP not apearing on first boot with pre-built BIN
Just flashed a new Sonoff S20 (V1.3) with the Arduino IDE and ESPEasy v2.0.0-dev12 and flashmout 'DOUT'. Flashed and ran in first 'go'.
I do still get "Error while reading/writing config.dat in 926" with this new device

Re: Sonoff Basic - AP not apearing on first boot with pre-built BIN
Is there much of a difference between R120 and 147?.....
Re: Sonoff Basic - AP not apearing on first boot with pre-built BIN
@alphons
I received the NEW sonoff basic from itead today.
I followed your instruction to flash the Espeasy normal v2.0 with the flashing tools from Espressif per your instruction.
I was successful and reboot the sonoff and on the Wifi ssid, I see ESP_Easy_0, but I cannot logon because it requires an 8 digit password.
Please advise the password.

Re: Sonoff Basic - AP not apearing on first boot with pre-built BIN
Thanks all,
I was able to log onto the sonoff and change ip address of my desire and proceed to configure this for domoticz.
When I reach the "HARDWARE" section, as usual, since I had many sonoff, I change the wifi status led to GPIO 13(D7), as soon as I did that, the led on sonoff goes on and I was disconnected from the router and no longer able to log on. What gives?

Re: Sonoff Basic - AP not apearing on first boot with pre-built BIN
OK OK,
Here is what I found, the GPIO13 on the sonoff is no longer and I do not know what it is. I configured the device without Hardware wifi led set as GPIO13 and it works. However, I can no longer turn on/off the switch with the black push button on the switch. I have to rely on software to control the sonoff.
Until I can find, this will do for now.

Re: Sonoff Basic - AP not apearing on first boot with pre-built BIN
I bought month ago Sonoff wifi switches. I do not flash these first time but with these ...i do not know what. Esp chip is 8266. Flashing goes norm but after reboot i do not see ESP_0 wifi. I use Os X and esptool. What and how i need ? I try ESPEasy_v2.0.0-dev11_normal_1024.bin and after this R120 512 and 1024. Not works.

Re: Sonoff Basic - AP not apearing on first boot with pre-built BIN
Just got a few of these Sonoff basics, boards say Dec/2017 is that helps anyone, and they are all ESP8266, I had heard they switched to another chip but I got out my magnifier to confirm. Grabbed the latest ESPEasy_v2.0-20180228.zip and used the DOUT normal bin, all flashed and create the ESP wifi network on boot.
esptool.exe -vv -cd nodemcu -cb 115200 -cp COM5 -ca 0x00000 -cf ESP_Easy_v2.0-20180228_normal_ESP8266_1024_DOUT.bin
I was a little concerned with all the mixed results I'd read but no issues here

Re: Sonoff Basic - AP not apearing on first boot with pre-built BIN
I first bought a Sonoff TH16 last year (2017) and was able to flash it with the ESP120 build and use it without any problems, I am using it as a temperature sensor.
I bought another two TH16's recently (May 2018) and was unable to flash them until I read this thread. The new TH16s have v2.1 on the circuit board - after using the correct flash tool I was able to flash them with the latest ESP git build, they boot and connect to WiFi OK however I cannot get the temperature sensor to work. I even downgraded the 2018 TH16's to the 120 build and set them up exactly the same as the 2017 unit but the temperature sensor device (set as a Temperature - DS18b20) does not work on the 2018 models. I am using the Sonoff sensor cable and GPIO14 but I do not get any ROM port/device numbers showing and cannot get any temp reading.
Am I doing something wrong? Or is the newer model TH16 temperature sensor not compatible with the ESP firmware anymore?
UPDATE
For anyone stumbling across this post - the problem was that the case on the new TH16's was preventing the DS18b20 sensor from connecting properly, it needs to click home and the casing hole was preventing that. I increased the size of the casing hole so that the sensor connected properly and everything worked as expected!
