i will try to switch my gardne lights... 1 by 1 With Domoticz..
So i need 2 sepperate 6-8 channel relay boards..
I can have only wifi acces.

Now i get 1 esp8266 nodemcu with a normal relaisboard, only can not switch 8 channels, [ wrong setup perhaps? ] only i do cannot find the good pins for 8 channels.

"Too expensive" comparing to what? Cheap China Boards available on Ebay and sold under the "sell-and-forget-about" strategy? It's a Apples vs. Oranges comparation.
Proper testing, support, software examples and tutorials, all come with a price. Similar boards are in the $100+ range.

If you want it cheaper, you can just order it without a full programmed and tested ESP8266 and add yours on arrival. It will be just $32.98. Same if you want to use it with RPi, ARM or whatever, without ESP8266.

And yes, it's not "free shipping" as it not coming from China. But can be on your table in less than a week, especially if you are in EU. Without any Customs taxes, VAT and any other fancy things that might hit your pocket extra at arrival.
"Cheap" is comming with a price all the time.

Hi Dylantje,

Board size is 16x5cm! (half Eurocard height). Board height is 2cm. A good enclosure volume will start at 16x5x2.5cm. As a good practice some extra space for ventilation cannot harm at all. Bigger is better.

It is a total different approach from MAINS PSU voltage levels to relays drivers and size. Looks like is based on a Atmega MCU.
Did you manage to find a schematic for it? At a first look I don't see any FUSE and MOV protection on MAINS side.
Also I hope they have done properly their math when calculated the maximum power consumption for that 5V PSU. As they are using 5V Relays looks quite to the limit...5x8 Relays ON + ESP8266 WIFI ON + the rest.

On the other side, MPRSx8 is using a 12Vcc PSU for some good reasons: to reduce power consumption per Relay Channel and also to keep it compatible with the standard 12Vcc rails that you can find in many home and industrial automation projects. After that the 12vcc->3.3Vcc DC-DC High-Efficiency Step-down regulator insure that the ESP8266 and the logic part of the board receives the proper voltage and current all the times.

On MPRSx8 Home automation board you have:
- I2C / nEXT Bus compatible connector - you can add your own extension modules - light sensors, gas, motion, etc. They are already a lot available all over the place.
- Compatible with any I2C compatible MCU/Board: Arduino, ARM, PIC, ATMEGA, ESP8266, ESP32, RaspberryPI, etc

That I think means a LOT of options and flexibility in terms of extension boards, sensors, etc, that you can use with.

Well I spoke personally, and as many here (i believe) can self-build boards such that with much less costs, which actually I do and thus I can have full control on size, functionality and design.
I fully understand and aknowledge in your case it just to cover the developping and testing costs but, and sorry to maybe sounds unpolite nad harsh, I don't see this fourm as an advertising site but more a forum to share opinion and usage of the ESPEasy software and as well how to "hack it" into available hardware...
I see this as an hobby, so I don't mind if I need to spent some time to build and debug, to wait for hardware and components (from China or EU, I buy from where it's more convenient for me, balancing time and costs).
I don't have a job to deliver next week so I need a fast shipping, and by the way buy from China I can always choose to have free-shipping (waiting longer) or pay for shipping (and delivery in 1 week) and that's the point, I can choose; personally (and still this is MY opinion) I don't buy from sites where I'm forced to pay for fast shipping, it's a free world so I believe I shoudl be able to choose

Is no site forcing you to pay for anything, it's a free world, nobody is forcing nobody to do anything. Look thru the thread above, somebody asked about some Relay Boards that can be used with ESPEasy and because I was working these days to some ESPEasy related Tutorials I was thinking that it's good to give some extra options for diversity. Maybe they are people out there that are interested, some as you, might not. I see this action more like sharing knowledge. And as we are talking about the MPRSx8 Relay board here, a board designed to work out of the box with ESPEasy and Domoticz ... I was thinking that this is just the right place to be shared.

First time it will start in AP mode.
You need to find the related WIFI network SSID, in the format of ESP XX:XX:XX connect to that , and after you are connected OK and ended on your PC/tablet/phone/whatever you use with a 192.168.4.x IP you can go and connect to 192.168.4.1

Did you connect to it?
It's not loaded with ESPBasic? Or did you ordered with ESPEasy firmware? You can see from the main Setup window what type of firmware do you have already loaded on it. By default you have the Relays web interface demo software from the Youtube videos.

What kind of temp/hum sensor you want to connect? You can use the nEXT Bus connector to quickly hook up a I2C one.

Do you have the ESPBasic version loaded ? can you please confirm it?
If yes, you have also loaded as default the demo program for the board, with a web relay interface. When you reboot the ESP module, you will see a blink on the blue led and after few seconds another set of blinks. that means that your default program was launched and you can access the Relay Command interface.
Also in the files folder you have the scanbus.bas program utility that will help you to work with extra I2C bus devices that you can connect directly on the nEXT Bus connector.

You can use it as it is or you can upload ESPEasy on it, it's working very well with both.
For programming you need to use the programming header on the left.

For any specific related help, if you contact me directly I will be more than happy to help you.

Take a near look ath the relays: 125V~ maximum! I would not use that module for home automation switching mains voltage.
If something goes wrong and it gets on fire your insurance might have a word for it....... "No!"

Notabene: I have two Linknode R8, ordered from an european seller. The relays on that boards are definitely not approved for 230V.
As I do not use them for mains voltage, it doesn't matter for my purposes, but....

Hello Dylantje,

i can confirm it works on the R8.

- Disconnect power from the module.

- The header "J1" has three pins, G, Tx and Rx. These shoud be connected to the programmer cable/adaptor accordingly.
Some manufacturers are not quite clear with these, so if it does not work, try swapping Rx and Tx.

- The second header has pins GND , DIO0 and 3,3V. A jumper is set to DIO0-3,3V for normal use (start firmware on chip).
Set this jumper to GND-DIO0, this activates the boot loader for flashing new firmware when starting the ESP.

- Now start the flash process on your computer and immediately power up the ESP on the Linknode.

- after flashing set the jumper back to DIO0-3,3V and power off and back on after a few seconds.

Hello Dylantje,

on the manufacturers webside there is a list of the used GPIO's:

According to that list the GPIO's 2 and 9 should be unused.
So it is possible to solder a wire to one of these GPIO's for connecting a DHT.

Another way to connect a DHT easily, e.g. for testing (Didn't try that myself but it should work):
When ESPEasy is flashed and running, you may switch off the serial port:

- double check that the ESP is working properly with the firmware!
- open the R8's webpage
- go to --> Tools --> Advanced
- uncheck the "Enable Serial Port" box.

The serial port uses GPIO1 (Tx) and GPIO 3 (Rx).
Then you may connect a DHT to GND, GPIO and 3,3V direectly at the pin headers.
(Don't forget the pullup resistor 10K from 3,3V to the data/GPIO pin).

This allows to connect a DHT without soldering wires to the ESP chip on the board.

Remember that this makes impossible diagnosing the ESP via serial port.

It might be possible to connect a DHT even to the GPIO0 (DIO0) header.
Definitely be carefull and test that before going live for a reason:
I'm not sure if the DHT gives "low" or "high" at startup so this may lead into
booting into flash mode permanently. Not dangerous: If you switch off the device
at that point it just does nothing, but it should be tested thoroughly:

- Connect a DHT to GPIO0 (don't forget the pullup resistor 10K from 3,3V to the data/GPIO pin).

- Switch off and back on several times, check if the webpage is alive and the device works every time you restart.

Advantage: You don't loose the serial port so reflashing and diagnosis if necessary it's easy to do.

when i use this board with lights, all the lights are off with power up.
Only GPIO 10 not..

Do you perhaps a solution for that?

Hello Dylantje,

hm... not out of the box.
Check if the GPIO is set to default boot state:
- Open the webpage of the R8
- Go to "Hardware"
- Check the Setting of "Pin mode 10 (D12)", it should read "Default" usually.

It might help if you set it to "Output low". This says, that the GPIO is an output and should be set to "low" on bootup.
This is limited to bootup - if something inside the ESPEasy sets the GPIO10, this won't help.
Please check if the On/Off function is still working after this setting.

If that does not help there is a somewhat crude workaround.
Use a rule that switches off the GPIO10 at startup. This might make the GPIO10 switch on for a moment and then switch off.

- Open the webpage of the device.
- go to --> Tools --> Advanced
- scroll down and check the "Rules" box and click "submit".
- go to the new appearing "Rules" tab
- put the following code into the text box:

Code: Select all

On System#Boot do
  gpio,10,0
endon

That switches off GPIO10 at boot.

I must admit that I really cannot understand based on what facts you can state that the relays type from above are DEFINITELY NOT approved and not working properly on EU 240VAC.

I have on my desk the LEG-1A-12F Relays:
- UL Approval File.
- TUV Germany testing and validation report.
- ROHS certificate.

These boards are not made with whatever parts have fallen from the truck last night in the Shenzhen Market, they are comming from reputable chain suppliers.

For such a Applications Dev Board they are more than suitable and for any special requests can provide also more fancy and expensive options from OMRON, FINDER, FUJITSU-TAKAMISAWA, etc.

In 20+ years of Engineering I learnt to avoid to end up with so strong beliefs based only on some assumptions ...

The imprint on my relay says nothing about more then 125V.
That is what i can see.

Okay. So i'm just making assumptions and can not read what is printed on my relays.
I'm electronics tech for about 40 years now, IT tech for about 30 years.

A problem...
From this day the espboard is restarting in after 3 minutes...
Did try a lot other setting..
No luck @all

Is there a way to set back the factory of the ESP software?
Cannot reach the board with the webgui anymore.. [ did something wrong in the hardware settings i think ]

Or need i t reflash the board?

Hello Dylantje,

you may try to reset it via the serial port using the Arduino IDE or ESPlorer, sending a "reset" to the ESP.

Or you may try a hard reset:
- Switch off the ESP
- Connect Rx and Tx pins to eachother
- switch on and wait at least a minute.

Hi guys

I notice this thread mentions LinkNode R8 so I am trying my luck here
After I uploaded the Easpeasy R120 to a R8 board, and start configuring it, I notice after the 6-7th device (switch input), the board starts rebooting continuously, making it impossible to use.
Has anyone experienced the same?
I have uploaded using Arduino 512k/64 spiffs/QIO, generic esp8266 on my Mac
My next step would be to go to my windows and upload one of the compiled images with the esptool.exe, but my hopes are not high

Try to use the esp easy script to do the flash...

The LinkNode R8 uses a ESP-12E.

The ESP-12E has 4096 KB flash.
Using the R1xx Versions please use a 4M (3M SPIFFs) memory model.
If self compiling with Arduino IDE you may simply use the "nodeMCU 1.0" setting.

My 340 drivers are not working with me on my Windows 10
And I did tried with 4M/64SPIFFS but with the same result
The board compiles and uploads well with the Arduino IDE and works very well until, after I have configured the 7th relay, starts rebooting every 10 secs
In another time it was when all relays were ON.
Still pending uploading using esptool.exe on my windows

Try 4M/1M Spiffs for the R147/R148 or 4M/3M Spiffs for the 2.0.0.DEVx.

I'm using ESPtool for flashing mostly, should work.

For a try flash a readily compiled R147 from the wiki to the board.

The CH340 should usually run on win10 too. I've seen drivers for the chip and win-10.

2 the same linknode 8 relais boards.
the same motion
the same firmware.
the same complete setup. [ hardware settings/ untick ttl etc etc ]
use gpio 1 for dht, like you learned me here
use gpio 3 for motion...

Stange thing.
1 board works perfect.
the other board [ everything the same ] is acting on and off without motion [ incl 10k resister ]
The time is different.
without motion, d3 is on and off. ...
grrrr.

Is there a background setting or something else ti can set.
build a nice switching module,....
only now i cannot use the motion..

Help or something...

may a stupid question... some of these PIR boards have a jumper that changes the way it Switches.
Both set same, if so? Sensivity setting of the sensor equal?

no jumper on the same boards, i use the + and - for the sensors.
No settings possible bij the sensors.

possibly the "mini" sensors .. i never tested them.

Amyways... is it possible to swap the two sensors to see if the seonsor or the linknode causes the problem?

I did a test setup..
Works for weeks... [ in my garage ]
After a hard reset because i set something wrong..
This strange thing is happening..
