Sonoff - Something went wrong

Hi

I have solder and flash my new sonoff, the first of 4 I have gotten ... But the ESP_0 wifi is not coming up and the serial monitor shows funny symbols.

What have I done wrong, before I solder and flash the next 3 units

Afaik cheap one should be OK, but u need another power supply. Don't power it through ac... T dangerous.

9600 bps is not the standard console port speed. Try with 115200, it should work fine.

There is no issue in powering a Sonoff from the 5V line from an FTDI adapter, works well. And I can see that you have correctly set the data signals to 3.3V on the FTDI adapter, which is the good thing to do.

Let us know is the correct console port speed fixes the issue.

You are right, I have checked and also the Vcc pin on the Sonoff needs 3.3V, like the voltage of the data lines.

The picture of the FTDI adapted shows that its jumper is correctly configured for 3.3V and that adapter correctly puts 3.3V on the Vcc cable. I have the same exact adapter and I have checked the traces on the PCB, so I can confirm that.

There are some TTL-serial USB adapter which always put 5V on the Vcc cable, unfortunately, so one should really make sure that the adapter puts 3.3V out and not 5V, to avoid damaging the ESP8266 on board.

For the 1000. time:
Do not use cheap FTDI proggers

I think i've written it several times now:
The FT232 is one of the most faked chips on China market.
An genuine FT232 costs around 3 USD when you pick it in 1000-lots!
3 USD for the chip alone - compare with the price of these proggers yourself, maybe you will realize something.

FTDI has taken measurements against these fakes. It looks as if flashing runs nicely, but the chip driver replaces the
flashed data with zeros and a text like "FAKE CHIP DETECTED" or such. Obviously this destroyed code will never boot!

To be honest i don't see the advantages of the FTDI besides it wears a famous brand name.
If you want a reliable and cheap progger, chose one with a CP2102 or a CH340 / CH340G.
They are even cheaper then the FTDI fakes and they do exactly the same Job.

On another note:
I strongly agree with toffel:
Do not use the internal power of the Sonoffs for flashing, use an external power supply instead.

It's much more fun to discuss with living forum members.......

Thanks for all your help. I was not aware about the issues with just buying a cheap FTDI chip. I have ordered a CP2102 from the link below and I hope this will solve all issue at once

I have the same FTDI chip and I had the same problem with one of my Sonoff devices. The problem was not in the FTDI chip.
My problem was that somehow something was left on my Sonoff from previous flashes.
After two days research in google I solved my problem.
Just flash my sonoff with blank bin and then flash with EspEasy.
I followed instructions from here:
