Are the Sparkfun board (https://www.sparkfun.com/products/12787) and GY-9960LLC compatible?
The GY-9960LLC does not have a separate power input for the IR LED.
Another variant called GY-9960-3.3 have six connectors as the Sparkfun board.
I'm having a problem with using a GY-9960 with ESPEasy rel.12 dev which has support for the APDS-9960. (It does list it with the I2C scan, though.) I've also tested the GY-9960 using the Sparkfun APDS-9960 library directly using both an Arduino and an ESP8266, with a port of the library and the provided examples.

Re: APDS-9960 problems
And what kind of problem do you have now? I have that sensor in use with the orig. PCB. VL is not necessary to connect. But there are some bugs in the library (see comment in there).
Re: APDS-9960 problems
The problem is that there are no readings from the sensor.
Does ESPEasy have a I2C data line monitor in the UI?

Re: APDS-9960 problems
You can set the web log level to 3 under "Tools --> Advanced", then you find entries like " APDS : Gesture=DOWN (4)" in the log.
