Where to order a PMS7003

#1 Post by chromo23 » 13 Feb 2025, 17:30

Hi,

I am planning to build an air quality monitor and I wanted to use a PMS7003 as the particle sensor.
But the two times I ordered one, I got fake ones. One was from Aliexpress and the other from Amazon.
They look exactly the same from the outside but have a different sticker. Inside you can clearly see, that this is not a real PMS7003. Both are from MemsFrontier and are called MPM11-BD. I haven't found much about them and haven't tested them as I want to have an original when I order one. One seller didn't want to give me a refund because he claimed they were fully compatible :?

So my question:. Does anyone have reliable sources for ordering the genuine ones and would share them with me? Or does anyone know these fake sensors well enough to tell me if they are as good as the Plantower ones?

Years ago I have ordered a few modules from Plantower themselves.
However that was quite expensive, especially the shipping costs.

Keep in mind the PMS7003 does need a rather small pin header on the side, so not really a good candidate for breadboard tests.

I just searched for it on AliExpress and based on the most sales and reviews plus the seller includes a conversion board, I think this is the one I would have ordered from (and might still be scammed)
https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005007519706251.html

The original doesn't have fan openings on the large side.
But a true scammer may still use photo's from the real product and ship some clone.
Anyway, I would ask for a refund from Ali Express for the fake ones you received and mention in the review the seller is shipping fake clones.

I have already created a "motherboard". Since these damn cheap board manufacturers exist, I don't make boards myself anymore.(5pcs for under 4€)
And also using KiCad has become easier than ever... :)

I did and just got an answer. They sent me a return label. So i will try my luck with the next seller.
I did reviews. Amazon rejected them twice! Reason: "These aspects vary depending on the order and are not relevant for all customers."
I even phoned them and they did not care. And I always thought, selling fake stuff is illegal 🤷‍♂️

Maybe you could also send an email to Plantower regarding this and then include a screenshot of the mail as 'proof' to your claim.
